Can Tho University (CTU)

CAN THO UNIVERSITY (CTU)

Can Tho University (CTU), an important state higher education institution in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, is the cultural, scientific and technical center in Vietnam. Since its founding in 1966, CTU has been improving and developing itself into a multidisciplinary university. Currently, it has nearly 100 undergraduates, 36 Master and 15 Doctoral training programs with around 55,000 students. CTU has over 2.000 staff members including nearly 1.200 teaching staff and 800 supporting staff. In addition to its main training mission, CTU has actively taken part in scientific research projects, applying the advances in scientific and technological knowledge to solving problems related to science, technology, economics, culture and society in the region. As a result, the university has developed a variety of products and technological production processes that benefit people’s lives and promote export, thus helping the university gain prestige in national and international markets.

Dr. NGUYEN Vo Chau Ngan

Dr. Nguyen Vo Chau Ngan is Associate Professor at College of Environment and Natural Resources - Can Tho University, Vietnam. Before moving to current position, he served as a Deputy Director of the International Relations Office at the same university (2015 - 2019). For academic background, Dr. Ngan was awarded Dr.-Ing. on Waste Management at the Technical University of Braunschweig -  Germany in 2012; then he acted as PostDoctoral Fellow for a DANIDA project from 2012 - 2016. Working at Can Tho University since 1999, Dr. Ngan has decades of working on water treatment and sanitation in the Mekong Delta. He has technical experiences on design, manufacture and installs wastewater - drinking water treatment system, waste treatment plant. Over the past five years, he has been involved in several projects to create awareness of the local community on the fields of technology transfer, higher education.

Prof. NGUYEN Hieu Trung

Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Hieu Trung is the Director of the DRAGON Institute-Mekong - Can Tho University since 2018. For âcdemic background, he received his PhD. in Production Ecology and Resource Conservation at Wageningen University - The Netherlands in 2006. Dr. Trung  has just promoted to Vice-Rector of Can Tho University in April 2021. Assoc. Prof. Trung has many years of teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. His recent research projects are related to climate change impacts assessment, climate resilience, climate change adaptation pathways, and participatory land use management for climate adaptation in the Mekong Delta.

Dr. NGUYEN Dinh Giang Nam

Dr. Nguyen Dinh Giang Nam did BEng. of Civil Engineering at Can Tho University, Vietnam (2002) and Master of Water Resource Engineering at Technology University of Braunschweig, Germany (2009). After that, he finished PhD at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology - Japan (2017). He is Head of Department of Water Resources - College of Environment and Natural Resources, Can Tho University, Vietnam. With a wide range of scientific background, he focuses on integrated research with great attention to integrated water resources management, irrigation, groundwater modeling and possible impacts of climate change on behaviors of the different groundwater systems in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta. He has invested great efforts to create science-based linkages between the hydrological environment engineering, environmental impacts assessment, and society in order to promote sustainable management of water resources. He is presently participating in different national and international projects as either a researcher or technician advisor.

Dr. LAM Van Thinh

Dr. Lam Van Thinh is a lecturer at College of Environment and Natural Resources - Can Tho University, Vietnam. For academic background, Dr. Thinh received a BSc. in Civil Engineering for Rural Development from Can Tho University, Vietnam in 1999. In 2009, he was awarded MEng. degree in Water Engineering and Management in Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand. In 2019, he was awarded a Dr. degree in Agricultural and Environmental Engineering from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Japan. Working at Can Tho University since 1999, Dr. Thinh has experience of working on water supply, drainage and flooding in the Mekong Delta.

Dr. DINH Diep Anh Tuan

Dr. DINH Diep Anh Tuan is currently a Researcher/Chief of Administration of the Research Institute for Climate Change (DRAGON Institute-Mekong), Can Tho University, Vietnam. With more than 15 years working as water engineering and scientific researcher, he has a strong experience in applicable study topics related to water supply/urban drainage/urban water infrastructure design and management. Over the past years, he has been participating in many national and international projects with various positions such as team leader/coordinator/expert/ research. Besides, he has given lectures related to urban water systems and has contributed to many successful national and international training courses or conferences.

Dr. VO Quoc Thanh

Dr. Vo Quoc Thanh has been a lecturer at the College of Environment and Natural Resources - Can Tho University, Vietnam since 2008. He earned his MSc. degree in Environmental Management at Can Tho University, Vietnam in 2012, and PhD at IHE Delft and TU Delft in 2021. From 2013 to 2015, he has worked as a lecturer in the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources Management, Can Tho University. During this period, he also acted as project assistant of the “Climate change and affecting land use in the Mekong Delta: Adaptation of rice-based cropping systems” project funded by ACIAR. From 2015 onwards, he is a lecturer in the Department of Water Resources, Can Tho University. From 2015 to 2019, he was involved in the project of “Modeling a sparsely-sampled, complex delta system: Mekong Delta case study” funded by the Office of Naval Research. He also has been involved in several projects on flood hazard mapping and water infrastructure.

MSc NGUYEN Thi Phuong Thao

MSc Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao is a researcher at the Research Institute of Climate Change (DRAGON Institute-Mekong) - Can Tho University, Vietnam. She earned the BSc. in Environmental Engineering at Can Tho University, Vietnam in 2010, the MSc. in Environmental Management at Can Tho University, Vietnam in 2012. After completing her MSc, she has worked as a researcher in the DRAGON Institute-Mekong - Can Tho University until now. From 2013 to 2015, she also acted as project secretary of the “Climate change and affecting land use in the Mekong Delta: Adaptation of rice-based cropping systems” project funded by ACIAR. From 2015 to 2018, she was involved in the project “Sustainable Mekong Research Network (SUMERNET) Phase III” funded by Stockholm Environment Institute. She has been involved in several projects on climate change, adaptation with climate change and mainstreaming gender into climate change projects.
